Brown Hyena
Retreat: San Camp
Botswana > Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

The Brown hyenas are fitted with radio-tracking collars that collect data to acquire in-depth knowledge and dynamics of the clan, for effective conservation and management of species. The two most important parameters is the mortality and birth rate to be examined. We also investigate the impact of the Makgadikgadi game fence, preventing the movement of the brown hyena out of the Park and into cattle areas. Working with other zebras and lions projects, we try to determine the impact the fence has on the 3 keystone species of the ecosystem. The researcher who conducts the project discusses and explains it to the guests of the camp.
