A complex of traditional style Chinese villas nestled into the mountainous landscape of South Western China, Banyan Tree Lijiang is close to the magic of old China. The resort echoes the old town of Lijiang, one of the best preserved, with its stone paving, tiny curved bridges over centuries’ old canals and original wooden panelled exteriors of the old merchant quarter. Guests choose from a variety of 88 suites and villas, from stunning villas to two-storey shophouses (typical Indian residences), all with breathtaking views and equipped with either plunge pools or jet-pools.

Retreat Projects

Banyan Tree Lijiang supports a group wide project providing mentorship, scholarship and internships to young adults at risk of societal inclusion. The resort provides trained mentor volunteers to befriend and support the students while also paying their school fees to allow them to gain a suitable education level.

Since 2006 Banyan Tree Lijiang has supported Wen Hai Primary School, starting with a reservoir system allowing the school to have access to water. Numerous books and educational material for the school libraries has been donated by Banyan Tree Lijiang, including Scholarships to Yunnan University School of Tourism Culture.

Women & Art

Banyan Tree Gallery Lijiang supports the Threads of Yunnan project, which aims to raise the standard of living of countryside women and preserve traditional handicrafts in Yunnan. The women earn additional income through the sale of handicrafts, thus giving them financial power to invest in their family’s future. Training is also provided in literacy, nutrition and money management in order to equip the women with necessary tools to prosper.
