Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge is located in the heart of the Mbirikani Maasai Group Ranch, located on the slopes of the Chyulu Hills National Park between Amboseli and Tsavo. Its location is unrivaled, with full views of savannah and Mt. Kilimanjaro, in the path of traditional wildlife migration routes. It is a lodge rich in history, passion and conservation rebuilt and redesigned in 2008 with 20 beds. No two suites or villas are the same, but what is consistent is the attention to detail and the comfortable yet utterly luxurious décor. Regarded as one of the most attractive lodges in East Africa, Ol Donyo Wuas Lodge is a place to call home for as long as possible!

Retreat Projects

Conservation

Ol Donyo Wuas is one of the few areas in East Africa where the “Big 5” (lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and buffalos) can be found. There are daily sightings of elephants at the waterhole and the lions remaining are highly protected. The number of wildlife that exists is the result of decades of dedication and projects with the community, who knows that benefits are linked to a healthy and vibrant wildlife population.

Wildlife zones

Maasailand ranches are part of an ancient migration route, where thousands of cattle breeding villagers live and work. Feral lions were at risk as they were being killed regularly. The lodge is now negotiating with the community to develop a core wilderness zone which will be people-free. This “wildlife corridor” will reconnect Amboseli to the Chyulu Hills and Tsavo National Park.

Community

Ol Donyo Wuas works directly with the community to ensure the sustainability and success of many projects such as compensation for cattle losses, schools, mobile health clinics, employment. In 1992 the Maasailand Preservation Trust was founded to build schools, health clinics, create anti-poaching teams and oversee the predator compensation scheme.
