Brand History

The Ecoluxury brand was born in 2005 from an idea of Enrico Ducrot, the result of his decades of experience in travel, culture and hospitality.  Ducrot decided to focus on ecotourism, quality and sustainability as an alternative to mass tourism. He thus founded a brand that guides clients to luxury destinations and accommodations committed to investing part of their profits in the protection of territorial identity.
The name Ecoluxury combines “Eco,” which emphasizes the mission of environmental sustainability, and “Luxury,” understood not as superfluous or expensive luxury, but derived from the Latin “luxus,” evoking something more beautiful and good, inspiring admiration and approval.  Over the years, Ecoluxury has included in its Collection a selection of more than 90 hotels of excellence, which share the common mission of funding environmental projects, preserving artistic and cultural heritage, or supporting social identity.
With the Giving Back in Tourism program, Ecoluxury proposes a new way of experiencing tourism, based on collaboration between the land and the people. It is not simply a travel experience, but a complete immersion in a virtuous circle involving Retreats, local excellence, communities and visitors.
From 2011, Ecoluxury further strengthened the program, creating a network of travel consultants in major cities around the world and opening the first physical travel agency in Rome: Ecoluxury Travel. In the following years, two more agencies opened in Italy, in Milan and Bologna.
To raise awareness among more clients in choosing sustainable tourism, Ecoluxury selects a series of specialized partner agencies, distributed throughout the country, called Ecoluxury Points.
In 2017, Ecoluxury Fair was born, the first luxury tourism fair that places sustainability as a competitive advantage, quickly becoming one of the leading events in Italy and Europe.
In 2019, Ecoluxury becomes a GSTC partner and begins the Travelife certification journey, reaching the Partner level in 2023. In addition to the projects of the Collection partners, Ecoluxury takes care of redevelopment and conservation projects of artistic and cultural heritage firsthand. In 2023, it completed the restoration of the Ducrot Rose Garden, an old farmhouse in the Umbrian hills, maintaining the original architectural style and preserving a unique garden with 650 species of roses from around the world.  By 2025, it is scheduled to complete the restoration of the Temple of Isis and Serapis in Campo Marzio, destined to become an archaeological museum in the heart of Rome.
Today, Ecoluxury is a well-established reality that certifies the sustainability of high-end accommodations, identifies the most virtuous ones and promotes their projects in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda.
Through the Observatory, it collects and spreads the actions of illuminated pioneers in environmental conservation around the world.

The founder

Enrico Ducrot

Enrico Ducrot was born in Rome in 1965 into a family of passionate and experienced travelers who passed on to him the desire to explore and learn about the world.

By the age of fifteen, Enrico had already explored the Orient, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Kashmir, and Ladakh.  In the following years he traveled the Middle East by car, motorcycle, and bicycle.
While pursuing a degree in Near Eastern Archaeology and Art History at the University of Rome, Enrico Ducrot traveled several times to Ebla, Syria, and Jordan to carry out excavations, and in 1990 he also spent an extended period of study in Istanbul. Since 1991, Enrico has been working for the family tour operator Viaggi dell'Elefante, as a “destination discoverer” and creator of trips to the Middle East, Central Asia, the Far East and South America.
In 2001 Enrico helped set up a campground in a Baja California Park, for which he received the Enviromental Recognition Award at the 2003 World Travel Market. In 2005 he started the Ecoluxury project, a reality that combines a sustainable economy with the highest quality standards, as opposed to mass tourism products based on obsolete and unsustainable models.
