A land of indigenous grape varieties nestled in the blue Mediterranean: Sicily is synonymous with fine wines to be enjoyed in an incredible landscape.
Etna's soils, originating from the slow degradation of lava rock, rich in ash and organic matter, give the soil unique characteristics.
The sixteenth-century lava flows, on the slopes of Etna, represent the ideal soil for the production of fine wines: Etna DOC is produced here in the white varieties, from Carricante, white Catarratto, white Minnella and Trebbiano vines, and the red produced from a blend of Nerello cappuccio and Nerello mascalese.
The area of Menfi, thanks to its Mediterranean climate and variety of soils ranging from clay, to pebbles, to limestone, has ideal conditions for growing native and international grape varieties.
Chardonnay, Inzolia, Syrah, and Merlot are grown here.
According to one legend, Guru Padmasambhava arrived at the cave from Khenpajong, Tibet, on the back of a tiger.
Another story tells instead that the tiger was none other than Yeshe Tsogyal, the wife of a Tibetan emperor, who was eager to become his disciple and therefore transformed herself into the animal.
A deep spiritual connection of these places with the tiger emerges from both stories.
The incredible location of the monastery has also fueled popular legends related to Tenzin Rabgye, the one who began the construction.
Writers recount his incredible gifts such as ubiquity, the ability to feed all visitors with very little food, to keep all those who participated in the construction safe, and apparitions of animals and religious symbols in the sky.
Upon arrival at Taktsang Monastery, one can enjoy a spectacular view of the valley below.
The Upper Paro Valley is a magical place that wins the hearts of travelers for its unspoiled nature, deep spirituality and ancient culture.
