The focus on protecting endangered animals and preserving natural habitats goes back several decades, when the practice of ecotourism was still uncommon. Only later did some environmental conservation pioneers identify tourism as a way to finance their activities aimed at preserving valuable ecosystems.
This is how many private reserves in Africa, reforestation projects in South America, marine parks in the oceans, and animal and plant species repopulation programs around the world were born.
By the term “Biosphere Conservation,” we wanted to identify those projects carried out by Retreats that consist of a set of practices aimed at protecting and preserving the planet's ecosystems, ensuring the survival of animal and plant species and maintaining the integrity of natural habitats.
These projects include the restoration of coral reefs, the reintroduction of rhinos, the protection of mountain gorillas, and the reforestation of native plants in areas where human presence has threatened to cause irreversible damage.
Biosphere conservation includes the creation and management of nature reserves, national parks and protected areas, and the promotion of sustainable environmental policies.
Key activities include reforestation, protection of endangered species, restoration of coral reefs, and reintroduction of wild animals to their natural habitats. Biosphere conservation also involves educating and raising awareness in local and global communities about the importance of biodiversity and ecological balance.
Choosing to stay at one of the Ecoluxury Retreats means helping to restore sustainable use of our planet's marine and terrestrial ecosystems and, perhaps, is also a way to compensate Mother Nature for the mistakes made by past generations.
