Zarafa Camp, located in the Selinda Private Reserve, was probably the first lodge in the whole of Africa to be powered entirely by solar energy. By 2008, the camp was already generating 220V electricity for all its needs, including ice machines, freezers and other household appliances, making it entirely self-sufficient.
Entirely designed in a sustainable manner, only recycled wood and textiles were used in the construction of Zarafa Camp, demonstrating a concrete commitment to environmental sustainability. In addition, the kitchen is powered by a biogas system, which converts organic waste into gas that is used during meal preparation.
