Gold Level Eco Status

Africa | Kenya | Riserva Masai Mara

For 3 years running, Saruni Mara has been certified as Gold Level Eco Status by the Ecotourism Kenya Organization. This certification is awarded to accommodation facilities which have achieved superior and replicable levels of excellence in responsible resource use, environmental conservation and socio-economic development. Only 48 lodges across Kenya have reached this gold status. Saruni Mara has been recognized for its low environmental impact being a small size lodge perfectly integrated in the landscape. In addition, the solar energy, the collection and storage of rainwater, the use of biodegradable cleaning products, the proper disposal of toxic waste, the regular recycling of glass and plastic and the replacement of plastic bottles with aluminium flasks, are just some of the good practices of sustainable tourism that Saruni Mara has adopted over the years in its management.

Saruni Mara

Saruni Mara is an intimate luxury lodge nestled in a secluded valley in the heart of the most exciting wilderness in Africa: Mara North Conservancy – an exclusive, private wildlife concession bordering the world-renowned Masai Mara National Reserve. Established in 2003, it consists of 2 large villas and 5 elegant cottages designed and built by Kenyan architect Mark Glen. Saruni Mara offers the thrill of sleeping in direct contact with nature in a safe form in an informal, but elegant atmosphere. The rooms are furnished with antiques from bygone times, Persian carpets and decorated with African art. Saruni Mara is located in a remote valley in the heart of the Kenyan wilderness within a beautiful private natural area of over 30,000 hectares and offers a new concept of safari in Africa: a real adventure, lived in harmony with the Maasai warriors, combined with high standards of style and comfort. Professional wildlife management and environmentally-friendly tourism ensure guests a unique and exclusive safari experience thanks to the low density of vehicles allowed to access the Conservancy. The Masai Mara is in fact considered one of the "Seven Wonders of the World" for being a savannah with a high concentration of wildlife, birds and vegetation. The scenery of the largest migration of wildebeest and zebras, when between July and November over a million animals cross the Serengeti in search of greener pastures. Saruni Mara has been awarded Gold Level Eco Status by the Ecotourism Kenya Organization for 3 consecutive years. A certification awarded to only 48 accommodations throughout Kenya for achieving a level of excellence in the responsible use of resources, environmental conservation and socio-economic development of the area in which they operate.
