Founded in 2003 by US missionaries as a mobile outpatient clinic, the Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH) is located on the edge of the impenetrable forest of Bwindi and provides medical care to the inhabitants of the area. The hospital provides medical care for various diseases, including diabetes, AIDS and malaria.
The Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Lodge cooperates with the Bwindi Community Hospital on an ongoing basis in order to strengthen child and maternity health services in particular. Thanks to the contribution of Sanctuary Retreats and its guests, new projects are underway such as the creation of a nursing school, a new ward for 60 adult patients and the provision of two new ambulances.
