BIOSPHERE CONSERVATION

Oceans Without Borders

Africa | Zanzibar | Mnemba Island

Oceans Without Borders is a partnership between &Beyond and Africa Foundation, established with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of tourism and contributing to the preservation of oceans, marine wildlife and coastal communities. This ambitious project has five main pillars:

  • Baseline: facilitate research on a global scale, influence decision-making and monitor progress to ensure an informed and measurable approach to marine conservation.

  • Ocean Care: promote the preservation of marine habitats by supporting the establishment and expansion of marine protected areas (MPAs) to protect ecosystems critical to the planet.

  • Caring for wildlife: defending iconic marine species through initiatives to protect and sustain them, ensuring the maintenance of biodiversity.

  • Caring for people: work with local communities to implement sustainable practices in the use of marine resources and create alternative food sources, improving livelihoods and reducing pressure on coastal ecosystems.

  • Global Reach: expand positive impact globally through educating &Beyond guests and promoting international initiatives aimed at ocean protection.

With this integrated vision, Oceans Without Borders is committed to connecting conservation, community and sustainability to ensure a brighter future for our seas and those who inhabit them.

&Beyond Mnemba Island

Mnemba's pristine white beaches, surrounded by the deep blue hues of the ocean, transform this island into a private tropical paradise. Mnemba is inhabited exclusively by the resort's guests and the staff who care for them, ensuring an atmosphere of total privacy and tranquility.

The blindingly white beaches and bright sunshine invite guests to relax along the shore, while spectacular coral reefs reveal a wonderful underwater world to explore, ideal for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. Mnemba is recognized as one of the most romantic islands on the African coast, offering an unparalleled experience of exclusivity and intimacy.

The island is home to only ten “bandas,” typical cottages in the area, each of which has a spacious veranda and is nestled in the shady coolness of the tropical forest. The interiors celebrate Zanzibar's tradition of craftsmanship, renowned for the art of wood carving: the elegant headboards of the beds were handmade by the most talented local artisans, adding an authentic and refined touch to each band.
