Wherever feasible, Sukau Lodge employs local staff, in the lodge (about 80% comes from nearby area) as well as all connected activities and supply chain. The jetty, the boardwalks, furniture and wall panels, terraces are samples of local artisan's abilities.
Most of locals do not speak any Englishtherefore Sukau Ecolodge has organized a training program including experiences abroad to allow them to learn local cultures and tourists' needs and learning English. Some of the staff have been trained to become naturalistic guide . The management also encourage personal development providing training course to improve career within the lodge.

Among its activities, the Lodge offers the Kinabatangan Wildlife Safari, a tour of 3 days and 2 nights to explore the beauty of the local wildlife. Not too far from the hotel it is possible to visit several sites of great interest as the Sukau Village, the Gomantong Caves, and the coastal town of Sandakan where you will find the Sanctuary of the Proboscis Monkeys of Labuk Bay.
