Typically resorts in the Maldives will crush their bottles and sell the crushed glass to a recycling company, or simply dump the waste glass into the ocean. Soneva Fushi 's solution to this is to take on this entire process themselves. They begin by crushing the glass and melting it in their state-of-the-art glass furnace. Then using a variety of techniques, such as blowing, casting, and slumping they offer guests the rare experience of learning how to blow glass and create their own masterpiece, extraordinary items that are of a much higher value than the glass was in its original form as a bottle.
Fringed by white sand beaches that shelve gently into the azure blue sea, legendary Soneva Fushi looks like a Robinson Crusoe idyll, located within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Nature is nurtured at this beautiful resort, from the sustainable design and furnishings, through to the operations and waste-to-wealth centre, which truly defines the essence of barefoot ‘intelligent luxury’. Its remoteness is central to its charm, together with sophistication and relax, for which the expression “No News, No Shoes” was coined. Soneva Fushi is a luxurious experience offering 71 different accomodations, with 63 one-to nine-bedroom beachfront villas and 8 one-and two-bedroom Water Retreats built in a unique natural, understated and sophisticated style.
