The Safe Water for Schools Program provides water filters, through collaboration with Vestergaard (LifeStraw), to remote schools where access to safe drinking water is limited and difficult. Creating access to safe drinking water is one of the most effective ways to improve living conditions and promote well-being. The program introduces a sustainable and non-invasive solution to ensure clean water for students by installing community filters that can purify large quantities of water. These systems turn contaminated water into safe drinking water by removing at least 99.99 percent of bacteria, viruses and protozoan parasites. Each filtration system can purify up to 100,000 litres of water, enough to serve a school for 3-5 years. They are also chemical-free and require no electricity or batteries.
Swala Camp guests can purchase a filter before their trip and be present during the installation at the school. They can also attend a demonstration of the LifeStraw system, conducted by the AKP Field Coordinator, directly at the camp.
