Since 1995, Sukau Rainforest Lodge, manages its activity paying special attention to the environmental impact on the surrounding nature.
All 40 between Villas and Superior Rooms, are provided with all amenities to save energy , from light bulbs to hot water, using a crystal solar system; the Lodge is self sufficient to produce electicity using discarded cooking oil to light restaurant and bar who both have an intimate atmopsphere and are well merged with surrounding forest.
Rainwater is recovered, filtered and disinfected to satisfy 100% of lodge's needs for kitchen and washing.
Sceptic tanks avoid river's pollution with organic material used as compost while non recyclable items are set to Sandakan for disposal and recycle. Sewers are served by BioSolv Treatment System reducing water pollution.
Last but not least, great attention is given to sound pollution to protect wildlife. No radio or TV in the lodges and the river boats are equipped with electric engines (Evinrude E-TEC and Yamaha Portable Outboard Engine), guaranteeing top of emissions standards according to EU e US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The No smoking or food is allowed in the rooms as well as littering.
