Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Sukau Rainforest Lodge is perched on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, one of Borneo’s most important waterways and home to a wide range of magnificent wildlife.Here you can immerse yourself in the tranquility of the rainforest.Built in 1995 the Sukau Rainforest Lodge was the first lodge in the area, designed according to the principles of ecotourism. It offers maximum comfort and an incredible wildlife experience, monitoring the delicate balance between tourism and conservation, thanks to the application of good sustainable practices in its management, such as the use of organic and recyclable materials, renewable energy and electric motor boats to reduce noise pollution. The Sukau Rainforest Lodge is also very active in the economic and social development of the area and supports the local community. The lodge consists of a total of 40 rooms, and offers a wide range of services, including a fusion restaurant & bar, a swimming pool and a spa. Among its activities, the Lodge offers the Kinabatangan Wildlife Safari, a tour of 3 days and 2 nights to explore the beauty of the local wildlife. Not too far from the hotel it is possible to visit several sites of great interest as the Sukau Village, the Gomantong Caves, and the coastal town of Sandakan where you will find the Sanctuary of the Proboscis Monkeys of Labuk Bay.

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

Established in 1964, the centre lies in an area of Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve about 25 kilometres ... north of Sandakan. It was built to rehabilitate orphan orangutans back to the wild and has become one of Sabah’s top attractions. Today around 60 to 80 orangutans are living in the reserve, attracting visitors and researchers alike. The centre has a boardwalk which leads to a viewing gallery and feeding platform, where you can see the animals in their natural habitat and rangers feeding them.

Best time to head there is between July and October when the sea is calmer.
