Located in the spectacular Okavango Delta, luxurious Vumbura Plains is set in a natural environment that is a mix of water and dry land. Both land and water activities deliver a complete safari experience. In addition to the traditional game drives in search of the large predators as lions, leopards, cheetahs and hyenas, this camp offers the Okavango Delta exploration on board the typical mekoro boats. Vumbura Plains comprises two separate but linked camps, consisting of a total of 14 raised and spacious rooms. With a unique and contemporary design they all have en-suite bathrooms with indoor and outdoor showers. Additional features include a private plunge pool and a sitting area from where you can watch the passing parade of wildlife or even enjoy a relaxing soothing massage. A long-standing partnership between Wilderness and the local community makes this place a concrete example of sustainable tourism improving the  living conditions of the people of Okavango Delta.

Rooms

Double Tent

These luxury rooms, raised off the ground, are unique and contemporary in design ... , with extensive use of light, wood and space. Distributed in both North and South camps, they all have a private plunge pool and sleeping area situated in the middle of the room offering a spectacular views of the floodplains. They feature en-suite facilities with separate toilet, outdoor shower, mosquito net, indoor sunken lounge area and dining area. They feature two single beds that can be converted into a king size bed and two additional oversized beds for 2 children. Also available to guests Olympus equipment (includes a camera and a pair of binoculars) and exercise mat and weights.

Family Suite

The Family Suites are located in the South camp. They have 2 large luxury rooms ... each, raised off the ground and linked by private wooden deck. Both have a private plunge pool and sleeping area situated in the middle of the room offering a spectacular views of the floodplains. Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with separate toilet, outdoor shower and mosquito net. They feature two single beds that can be converted into a king size bed and two additional oversized beds for 2 children. Also available to guests Olympus equipment (includes a camera and a pair of binoculars), and exercise mat and weights.

Mokoro Ride

There is no better way of exploring the Okavango Delta than by traditional “Mokoro”. A is a trad ... itional dug-out canoe from a tree trunk. A different safari experience revealing the fascinating smaller creatures of the Delta including colorful frogs and lively waterbirds. Stay safely seated in the mokoro, you will sail through the silence of the shallow waters of this natural habitat. Your “poler” (or guide), will likely have spent most of his life propelling around the delta in his mokoro to check his fishing nets or get to remote villages. Provide it on a seasonal basis, when water levels are sufficient for the activity to be safe, mokoro excursion should be at the top of your “to-do list” when on safari in Botswana.

Day & Night Game Drives

Game drives are carried out both early in the morning and in the afternoon. They  bring you closer ... to of the many thrilling interactions being played out in the wild. Accompanied by experienced guides in open 4X4 vehicles you will traverse the grasslands surrounding the Vumbura plains called 'melapo' . This habitat offers good seasonal viewing of elephant, giraffe, impala, sable antelope, kudu, zebra, common waterbuck and reedbuck and many other species.  Hippos and crocodiles are more common as the waters rise and the melapo are flooded. Predators include the African wild dog, several resident prides of lion, as well as leopard, cheetah and African wildcat. Birdwatching is exceptional all year round. In this area, night-time game drives are possible with filtered spotlights to see nocturnal animals that you would be unlikely to encounter during the day.

Float Above the Delta

Take to the skies in style and soar silently over the rich ecosystem of the Okavango Delta. Hot air ... ballooning weather permitting and operational from April to October with guest numbers as a minimum of 02 and a maximum of 06. Transfers to the launch site are done via helicopter flight only, while the return to camp can be either a game drive or scenic helicopter flight at guest’s choice.
