Island of Palmarola and Zannone by boat

Just a few miles from Ponza, reachable by boat, lies an island that Folco Quilici called "the most b ... eautiful dry land in the world," with countless coves, caves and the striking stacks of "Mezzogiorno," Palmarola is a paradise to explore.Zannone, the northernmost of the Ponzian islands, offers crystal-clear blue waters and lush vegetation. Uninhabited and part of the Circeo Park since 1979, the island can be visited by private boat after applying for a permit. A rich natural heritage can be discovered here, such as migratory birds and mouflon. The vegetation includes typical Mediterranean scrub and a forest of holm oaks, crossed by a path that leads from the lighthouse to the top of the island, Monte Pellegrino, about 190 meters above sea level, where there are the remains of an ancient Benedictine monastery, abandoned because of Saracen raids, and those of a villa inhabited until the 1970s by the Marchesi Casati family.
