Spotting gorillas in Rwanda is a life-changing experience: with only 880 gorillas left in the world, seeing these creatures in their natural habitat is a truly unique moment. Gorillas live in the bamboo-covered slopes of the Virunga Mountains in the Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda. Once spotted, you will be introduced by experienced guides to one of the gorilla families and spend time crouching a few steps away while the gorillas move undisturbed. Mountain hikes can take anywhere from 30 minutes to four hours, depending on the family assigned to the group and its location. The return journey can take just as long.
Experienced guides provide pre-trekking briefings on specific protocols and rules regarding gorilla sightings. Transport staff are available to help carry backpacks and cameras, as well as to assist you during the trek.
